ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan endorsed the idea of interaction among the legislatures of the Eurasian countries.
He said that the periodic meetings with increase in people to people contact, enhanced business and cultural exchanges among the member states would have a long term impact on the prosperity of the Eurasian region. He expressed these views while addressing the first conference of speakers of parliaments of Eurasia countries held in Moscow, Russia, according to a message received from Moscow.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq underlined the need for close coordination among member states by addressing the common challenges to carve out peace and stability in the region. He said that the interaction in the field of security, intelligence sharing and fight against terrorism and narcotics trafficking would further cement these ties. He further said that the Eurasia region is passing through defining moments in terms of economic and strategic developments at regional and global level. The changes in the global power equation and structure that we are witnessing today will shape strategic and economic developments in the times to come, he added.
The NA speaker stressed upon the need to exploit the true potential of the region through enhanced cooperation. He said that the rise of Eurasia as the political and economic epicenter is fast becoming a reality. He made reference to accelerated pace in the growth of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and said that the SCO’s endorsement of China’s One Belt One Road would open many new avenues of regional cooperation.
While highlighting Pakistan’s role in the global war on terrorism, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan is at the stage of one of the biggest fight against terrorism and a military operation Zarb-e-Azb is in its final stage, which had subsequently minimised the terror threats yielding positive results. He said that Pakistan is making efforts to resolve all outstanding disputes including Kashmir with India peacefully through dialogue adding that the peaceful resolution of outstanding issues is imperative for regional peace and stability.
The speaker applauded the initiative taken by the government of the Russian federation and the Russian Parliament for holding the first conference of speakers of the Eurasia countries. He said that this opportunity had laid the foundations for forging closer ties and enhancing interaction among the parliaments of the Eurasian countries. He also proposed establishment of committees to explore possibilities of cooperation in specific areas of common interest and concern in order to facilitate genuine integration amongst Eurasian countries.
