ISLAMABAD: To address the opposition’s concerns on Panama paper leaks, the government on Friday laid “The Pakistan Commissions of Inquiry Bill in the Upper House of parliament, but major opposition parties PPP and PTI rejected it.
Giving salient features of the bill, Minister of Law Zahid Hamid told the House that it has been framed in accordance with the instructions of Supreme Court. The bill provides for the constitution of a powerful commission for investigation into Panama Papers as well as other issues. The scope of the commission would be wider and it would have the authority to constitute special teams of experts as well as international teams to get the required information. Speaking about the bill submitted by the joint opposition in the Senate Secretariat, the law minister said the bill was not acceptable as it was one-sided, prime minister-specific and has a limited scope, restricting the investigation only to Panama Papers.
